Hill Learning Center is excited announce an innovative new agreement with the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit (IU13) in Pennsylvania to expand access to the Science of Reading Short Course.
IU13 is a public education service agency that supports 22 public school districts as well as nonpublic schools in Lancaster and Lebanon counties in Pennsylvania. It is part of a network of 29 Intermediate Units (IUs) across the state that provide special education, professional development and technical assistance to school districts, charter schools and private schools.
Over the past two years, IU13 has used Hill’s Science of Reading Short Course as part of a hybrid model of professional development, enrolling teachers in cohorts who take the course together and engage in group learning led by IU13’s expert literacy consultants. Teacher feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and Hill and IU13 are eager to build upon these initial successes.
In August 2023, Hill and IU13 launched a program to partner more closely. In this innovative new arrangement, IU13 will offer the Science of Reading short course as part of its slate of recommended structured literacy professional development offerings to schools within the IU and throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Teachers who enroll through this program will receive a discounted rate exclusive to IU13 clients. In turn, Hill supports IU13 with management of teacher cohorts in the course. Not only will this agreement bring the course to a broader audience, but it also provides an opportunity for deeper engagement with the content through a hybrid professional development model. With over 7,500 individuals and counting enrolled in the course worldwide, Hill is thrilled to embark on this science of reading journey with our partners at IU13 in Pennsylvania.
