Hill Learning Center Receives Kenan Charitable Trust Grant

We are thrilled to announce that Hill has received funding from the Kenan Charitable Trust to launch a transformative initiative aimed at strengthening our support for students with learning differences in the Triangle community. This grant aligns perfectly with our new strategy, which focuses on three key priorities: Strengthening Programs, Expanding Access, and Engaging the Community.

As Hill embarks on this exciting chapter under the leadership of our new Executive Director & Head of School, Dr. Bryan Brander, we are committed to enhancing our services to better meet the diverse needs of our local community. This grant not only provides vital resources for our initiatives but also serves as a challenge to galvanize further support from foundations and families.

This grant will allow Hill to pursue impactful projects designed to broaden Hill’s reach and deepen our impact over the next two academic years:

  • Executive Function (EF) Online Course: We will develop an online course dedicated to teaching executive function skills, providing an accessible and affordable resource for educators, parents, and caregivers. This course will empower participants with practical strategies for supporting students’ executive function development.
  • Expansion of the Literacy Intervention Tutoring (LIT) Program: Our LIT program will be extended to high-need schools in Durham, delivering essential reading interventions to students who lack access to adequate resources. This program aims to close literacy gaps for at-risk learners.
  • Community-Based Learning Differences and Literacy Pilots: In collaboration with local nonprofits serving predominantly communities of color, we will co-develop pilot programs that provide valuable resources and support to families. These initiatives will empower parents and caregivers to advocate for their children’s educational needs.

Through this comprehensive approach, we aim to create a ripple effect of positive change across the K-12 landscape in our community. This work will not only strengthen Hill Learning Center’s position as a key resource for families and educators but also reinforces our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in education.
