Strategy: Deepening Local Impact in the Triangle

Home / About / Strategy

In May 2024, Hill’s Board of Directors approved a new strategy that emerged from a yearlong collaborative effort that engaged students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, volunteer leaders, and community partners.

Our Strategy

Hill’s strategy is to deepen local impact by becoming a stronger resource to the Triangle community in support of students with learning differences, attention challenges, gaps in foundational academic skills, and difficulties with executive function.

We envision this strategy guiding Hill for at least five years.

Our Goals

To achieve our strategy, Hill will pursue three mutually reinforcing goals: strengthen programs, expand access, and engage the community. Partnerships will help drive continuous improvement and innovation and reach diverse communities, and we will monitor and report on progress and refine specific action steps annually.

Invest in strengthening Hill’s programs for students and educators and supports for families.

ACTION STEPS:
  • Enhance the use of student data to improve instruction, communicate growth, and support students, teachers, and families.
  • Invest in advanced professional development for all Hill teachers and tutors.
  • Develop a plan for ensuring continuous improvement and alignment across all curricula for all Hill students.
  • Strengthen programming for Hill School parents and caregivers to better support their child at home and in school.
  • Refine existing and pilot new offerings to ensure the strongest programs that are research-based and responsive to the needs of students, families, and educators.

Expand access to Hill’s programs for students and educators at Hill and in local schools.

ACTION STEPS:
  • Strengthen financial aid and scholarship programs for students, families, and educators.
  • Expand the delivery of intervention, teacher training, and implementation support in local partner schools and districts.
  • Reduce logistical and operational barriers to enrolling in Hill School.
  • Evolve marketing and enrollment management systems, strategy, and processes to reach and serve more local families.

Engage the community to better support local families of kids with learning differences who are not being served at Hill.

ACTION STEPS:
  • Share information and conduct community presentations to raise awareness of and help destigmatize learning differences.
  • Build relationships to strengthen Hill’s understanding of the needs of underserved communities.
  • Co-develop programs and resources for families in collaboration with local schools and youth-serving nonprofits.

Fuel Our Future

How Your Investment Can Deepen Our Local Impact

Our new strategy to deepen local impact requires additional resources to invest in the crucial people, programs, and partnerships that underpin our efforts. To fuel these commitments, we are seeking support for three key fundraising priorities: Hill Fund (unrestricted), Expanding Access, and Innovation.

I’m so grateful for Hill Learning Center’s commitment to my professional growth. A teacher is never done learning, and I appreciate working for an institution that believes this at the core. Most recently, Hill provided our math teachers with the opportunity to pursue certification in multi-sensory math instruction. I am looking forward to implementing these research-supported methods in my math classroom this year!

El Futuro and Hill partner

In our work with Latino families whose children experience learning differences and attention challenges, we have found Hill to be a ready partner. The experience, wisdom, and positive reputation of Hill is making a real difference and we’re deeply grateful.

The opportunity to implement Hill’s literacy intervention tutoring program at Partnership Academy High School will be transformative. Beyond the immediate academic gains, we believe the impact on students’ self-esteem and confidence will be immeasurable. We truly believe that Hill’s intensive reading tutoring will not only transform academic outcomes but also shape the future trajectories of our students.
